After going through litres and litres of Olaplex in Sydney, when L’Oreal bought out their answer to bond fusion treatments with Smartbond, I was pretty damn excited to see what they had created.
So turns out Smartbond is quite literally the BEST hair product I have ever used and not only does what it is supposed to but it is bloody easy to use and has never, ever lets me down. As a colourist, I am so behind Smartbond that since the first time I used it, I recommend it to all my clients when having colour, most especially if the service involves a lightning process.
For any newbies to the whole Olaplex and bond repair hype, basically these products have been created to work on the bond INSIDE the hair cortex, keeping the hair strong and healthy. Usual treatment masks work on the OUTER layers of the hair, smoothing and softening the cuticle layer and giving shine and lustre. So in layman’s terms Smartbond does the work from the inside preventing the hair from becoming more damaged and repairs the bond fibres to make your locks stronger and healthier.
The difference between Smartbond and other bond treatments like Olaplex is that Smartbond does the work on the inside of the hair but also delivers shine, shimmer, softness and hydration. Whereas with other brands like Olaplex the hair would become stronger, it wouldn’t feel or look any better – this is how Smartbond wins for me. You literally cannot ignore the difference Smartbond creates after the first application, even making the dullest over-processed hair look immediately 10x healthier.
So it’s still important to use a great shampoo and conditioner and a weekly mask, but as an easy add on to your normal haircare regime, if you use Smartbond you will notice immediate differences in your hair and after time, I swear you’ll never look back.
Process:
Step 1: Smartbond step 1 goes in with your colour (don’t fear – it doesn’t affect the way your L’Oreal colour processes).
Step 2: Your colour is rinsed and towel dried then Smartbond step 2 is applied for 10 minutes.
Step 3: Smartbond 2 gets rinsed off then your hair is shampooed and conditioned as usual.
Step 4: Take your Smartbond home treatment home (it lasts about 4/5 months!!) and use once a week. Shampoo hair as normal, rinse, squeeze out the excess moisture and apply your take home for 3 minutes. Rinse, towel dry and style as usual! EASY!
